What Montana permit holders should know

Montana is constitutional carry since 2021. Out-of-state permits honored if issuing state's standards (especially fingerprint background checks) meet MT statutory criteria per MCA 45-8-329.

Notable Montana restrictions

  • Permitless concealed carry for adults 18+ (HB 102, effective Feb 2021)
  • Out-of-state permits recognized only if issuing state requires a fingerprint-based background check
  • Permit must be in immediate possession with photo ID
