What Illinois permit holders should know
Illinois recognizes no out-of-state CCW permits. Only residents of designated 'substantially similar' states may apply for an Illinois non-resident CCL.
Notable Illinois restrictions
- Illinois does NOT recognize any other state's concealed carry license
- Non-residents from 'substantially similar' states (currently AR, ID, MS, NV, TX, VA) may apply for an Illinois CCL
- Non-residents may transport legally encased/unloaded firearms in a vehicle under FOPA
- FOID card required to possess firearms/ammunition in IL
- Must immediately disclose presence of firearm to law enforcement on stop
